Case 69: Young woman with cerebral palsy provided with disability support services

A young woman with cerebral palsy was left in her home, alone and unable to leave, while waiting for the government to determine whether or not she was eligible for disability support services. Her advocate communicated with the government and argued that her treatment breached her right to protection from cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment, and her right to privacy, under the Charter. In response, the woman was quickly determined eligible to receive support services and placed on a waiting list for case management.
